Thanks for thinking I'm interesting enough to check up on. If you've come this far, I dare you to say hello before you leave.

I am an Associate Professor in Communication and at the Coordinated Science Laboratory at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

I study communication technology and public policy -- especially the way that legal, social, and technical elements work together (or don't work together) to shape systems of communication like the Internet. Usually, I read. Sometimes, I write. Often, I drink coffee. I might be found in a cafe drinking coffee and reading, or at home drinking coffee and writing. Or just drinking coffee.

In Summer 2008 I'm also a Visiting Associate Professor in People and Practices Research at Intel Research, Portland.
