After graduating from UCLA and the University
of California, Santa Barbara, Dr. Dixon worked as a faculty member in the
department of Communication Studies and a faculty associate in the Institute
for Social Research at the University of Michigan. In the Fall of 2003, he accepted a faculty position
in the Department of Communication at the University
of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Professor Dixon is a media
effects scholar dedicated to investigating the prevalence of stereotypes in
the mass media and the impact of stereotypical imagery on audience members. He has been honored as a faculty fellow
with the Center on Democracy in a
Multiracial Society and as an invited fellow of the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral
