NCSA Building to host map exhibit

The NCSA Building will host an exhibit of maps, both cartographic/geographic and scientific, Nov. 3-5. Called Places & Spaces, the exhibit shows how maps of the sciences can assist people in the organization, access, and management of scientific data and knowledge.

Peng Hwa Ang (Dean of the School of Communicaton and Information, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore), Champions and Runners-Up in Internet Governance, Wednesday, October 5, 24 Wohlers Hall.

Dean Ang is a well-regarded scholar of global Internet governance will be visiting the US to give a keynote at the Association of Internet Researchers meeting in Chicago. His talk at UIUC is part of the 2005-2006 Speech Communication Colloquium Series. link

Abstract: In November 2004, UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan appointed 40 persons into the Working Group on Internet Governance to write a report on internet governance. Why did he do it? Who or what advocated for the formation of the Group? Eight months later, the report is completed? Who has won? Who has last? What will happen next? The aim of the colloquium is to address these questions and to explore the implications for society and for academe."
